Individual Capability Assessment

The Individual Capability Assessment allows you to assess the current level of competence of each member of staff within your organisation who are involved in the management of suppliers.

The Capability Assessment is valuable because it allows you to assess the competence of your staff compared with what an expert practitioner in supplier management looks like.

The assessment also allows you to decide upon the level of expertise that you want for each member of staff, which in turn allows you to prepare development plans for them.

Why?

The competence of the people who manage suppliers in your organisation will be the main driver of whether your organisation maximises value and minimises risk in your supply chain.  It is essential to know the strengths and areas for development for all of your people.

The Individual Capability Assessment is designed to achieve just that.

What is the Individual Capability Assessment?

An Excel-based tool that allows you to gain a clear understanding of the competence of each member of staff, and to plan in detail for their development.

How should you use it?

Map the people in your organisation who are involved in the management of suppliers.

Ask them to complete a self-assessment using the Individual Capability Assessment Tool.

Hold facilitated calls/meetings with each member of staff and mutually agree their current level of competence for each aspect of supplier management.

Document a mutually agreed development plan for each member of staff.

We can support you with this if you wish – please ask us for details.

When?

An Individual Capability Assessment should be completed every 12 months or so, to ensure your staff are continuing to maintain and improve their competence in managing suppliers.

Who?

An individual who has expertise in Supplier Management should oversee the Individual Capability Assessment process.  It can be used for all staff involved in managing suppliers.
